This Paleo-friendly cookie dough recipe is boosted with protein, and yes, it’s totally safe to eat straight from the bowl!

Paleo protein cookie dough

Most of us have sneaked a bite or two of raw cookie dough when making cookies. Whether as a child or an adult, deep down we know it’s probably not a great idea, considering the raw eggs and other unbaked ingredients in the dough. But worry no more, as we have created not only a raw-safe cookie dough recipe, but a Paleo-friendly one to boot. Containing only a handful of ingredients (including collagen protein), this Paleo protein cookie dough recipe is the perfect post-workout snack or dessert.

What makes cookie dough so enticing? We know that the reward of warm chocolate chip cookies is worth the wait, but there’s just something delicious about getting a little sneak peek before the cookies are done. Eating raw eggs does pose some threat of getting food-borne illnesses, but recent studies have found that uncooked flour can harbor bacteria as well (1). Thankfully, there are no eggs or uncooked wheat flour in this protein cookie dough recipe.

To make this Paleo protein cookie dough, we started with almond flour and arrowroot starch. Both ingredients are Paleo-approved and provide a soft flour-like base for the cookie dough. Next, we added in Collagen Peptides for a whopping 40 grams of collagen protein in the entire jar of dough. Coconut cream and maple syrup provide moisture and a little sweetness, leaving out the refined sweeteners normally found in traditional cookie dough recipes. To complete the edible cookie dough recipe, we added in dark chocolate or dark chocolate chips. Look for at least 70 percent cacao content in the chocolate, and to keep it strictly Paleo-friendly, use 100 percent cacao chocolate or chocolate sweetened with coconut sugar, maple syrup or honey.

The best thing about this edible cookie dough recipe is being able to eat it straight from the bowl once it’s made. No preheating the oven, either! Since the recipe makes two servings, you could easily enjoy it as a snack, dessert for two or even post-workout fuel. Making a protein-filled cookie dough recipe not only provides collagen protein for healthy skin, joints and bones, but high protein content that helps keep you satiated longer.

Whip up this chocolate chip Paleo protein cookie dough next time you have a hankering for the raw stuff without any regrets.
