Cold brew coffee is a fun and alternative way to enjoy one of the most popular caffeinated beverages around. It’s not just a fancy coffee shop specialty; you can make it at home easily and inexpensively. We’ll give you the know-how in this easy collagen iced coffee recipe.
Even though cold brew coffee seems like a recent phenomenon, there’s actually evidence that the practice of cold brewing coffee has been around for as long as 400 years. Because it requires little energy to make, meaning no heat or fire, it is an easy way to “brew” coffee and store or transport it. The only requirement for brewing is letting the ground coffee beans be soaked for at least 12 hours.
Another term for cold brew is cold water extraction or cold pressing. Although cold water can be used, generally cold brew coffee is made with room temperature water and then stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Since the coffee beans never come in contact with heated water, the way the flavor in cold brew coffee is extracted is a different chemical process. Caffeine, oils and fatty acids of coffee are heat soluble, so soaking the beans in cold water typically brings less caffeine and acidity into the cold brew. If you are not a huge fan of coffee because of the acidity, you may actually enjoy this cold brew coffee recipe with way less acidity than regular coffee.

How to Make Cold Brew Coffee
Pick your favorite coffee beans and grind them to a coarse ground texture. For this recipe, you will need about a cup and a half of coffee grounds. Use either a French press or a glass Mason jar for steeping the coffee grounds. Pour the coffee grounds into the jar and then add in fresh water that is room temperature or colder. Place the French press or Mason jar lid on top and let sit on the counter or in the refrigerator for 12 hours or overnight. Do not press the French press lid down, if using, before the twelve hours is up.
Once the coffee has brewed, press the French press lid down and pour remaining cold brew liquid into a clean glass jar for storage. You can also strain through a sieve and coffee filter into another container. Now your collagen iced coffee is ready to be made. Add four to six ounces of cold brew coffee into a glass, along with your favorite Collagen Creamer and additional water or non-dairy milk as needed to dilute to your taste preferences. Serve it over ice or as-is, and enjoy!
- 4-6 oz cold brew coffee
- 1-2 scoops Collagen Creamer
- 2-4 oz iced water or non-dairy milk
- Add all ingredients to a blender or shaker bottle. Blend until well combined.
- Serve over ice and add more water or non-dairy milk as needed.
